H is for Hen!

Monday-Bath Day

Today is the day the twins take the bus to the Northwest Regional Education Service Center in Hillsboro. There they stay from 10:25am to 1:15pm for speech therapy. I must say when they are not here it is eerily quiet. I do miss the sound of their high-pitched little voices as they carry across the playroom and throughout.

Each Monday and Wednesday when they arrive I give them a full bath, wash their hair and blow dry it. I apply an anti-frizz serum on it for shine. When they arrived today, Tia had spaghetti sauce from last night's meal (I'm guessing here) and dries snot on her sleeves. Tamara had the scent of smoke in her hair. They both smelled of old pee.

The reputation of my preschool is on the line each time they visit their speech therapist. It is my responsibility as a child care provider to provide care in any way possible for the children in my care.

Their Dad is a single Dad with a full-time job and he attends school part-time. I let him know from the start that I am here for him and the twins as much as I can be.

Today after their therapy they had meatballs and spaghetti with orange slices and milk. They ate it up. Tamara used her sleeve, AGAIN, as a napkin! They were put down for their nap at 1:55pm. Tamara was busying herself with my sticker box. She got into and had my scratch n' sniff chocolate and cupcake stickers on her hands!

(5:23pm) Dad just came by to pick up Tia & Tamara. They were in good spirits and Dad explained to me that I didn't HAVE to give them a bath. He said he picked them up late from Mom's and they & he were exhausted. He has plans to fit "Bath Day" into his schedule on Monday nights. I explained to him that the condition they are in when they leave my care to see the speech therapist reflects on my preschool so I had to give them a head-to-toe bath, with a wash and blow dry. He was grateful because now he can skip that step and go grocery shopping.

He also was excited that his final Thursday night "class" was 2/23/12, next Thursday. He's really been working on incorporating Tia and Tamara into his schedule.
